Eric's passion for outdoor adventure and youth development started early on and has only gotten stronger since becoming a camp professional 10 years ago. Born and raised in Boston, Eric started going to overnight camp at age 10 and has only missed one summer since, which he did to realize his dream of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. He spent 14 years at YMCA Camp Coniston in New Hampshire, climbing the ranks from camper to senior leadership, before becoming the Senior Program Director of the YMCA of Greater Boston's Overnight Camps and the Executive Director of Camp Bauercrest. Eric has his B.A. in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics and Government (Interdisciplinary) from American University in Washington D.C. and despite the best efforts of many to draw him into a different career, he simply could not let go of his belief in the power of camp. Eric has seen and experienced first-hand the power of outdoor adventure in teaching kids the valuable lessons of life that will enable them for success, no matter their life's pursuit. When he's not at work, you can find him at competing at the curling club, skiing down the slopes, and exploring the backcountry in every way he can.
Growing up, I spent many summers at camps and loved every minute of it. In high school and college, I worked as a counselor at camps in Hawaii and Cape Cod. I began climbing in college, which sparked my love for the outdoors, and I have continued to find ways to pursue my passion ever since. During the last two summers, I worked as an outdoor instructor in British Columbia, with incredible mountain summits, canoeing, backpacking, rafting, and climbing. I am currently working on my Master's degree in outdoor education and looking forward to a great Colorado summer!
My quest for adventure began from a young age after watching countless hours of Mighty Morphing Power Rangers and practicing my acrobatics on the preschool playground. As I outgrew the school's monkey bars I sought out a part of my life that I am forever grateful for: The Outdoors. When I am not outside you can find me hammering some hot metal in the forge or at a table pretending I am a level nine Elf Warrior in search for my father's magic sword during a rousing game of Dungeons and Dragons. This will be my fifth consecutive summer at a camp and I could not be more thrilled for what this summer has in store!
When people ask me where I am from, I usually respond with, "I am Western American." I grew up hiking and biking in Montana, went to high school and college in Seattle, Washington where I fell in love with snowboarding, and now I live in New Mexico where I can hike, bike and snowboard most of the year. I teach snowboarding and skiing at Taos Ski Valley during the winter, and in the summer I can be found hiking and biking in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. I love taking photographs and learned to speak Spanish while teaching snowboarding in Chile.
My name is Nate Bibat and I am very excited to be back for another epic summer at CMC. I am a native of Whiting Indiana, a little city off of Lake Michigan near the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. I am currently a student at Indiana State University majoring in Rec and Sports Management with an emphasis in youth leadership and double minoring in environmental science and nonprofit leadership. I am a great advocate of the outdoors and enjoy doing activities such as hiking, fishing, camping, trail running and biking. Other than outdoor activities, I enjoy hobbies such as playing the cello, singing in the shower, hanging out with friends, playing basketball and digging up worms for my box turtle and best friend, Melvin. I am looking forward to having a blast with all the campers and staff and for the many adventures that await at Mt. Evans.
Hey everyone, head chef Matt here! I'm very excited to have the opportunity to come back to Avid4 Adventure! I had such an amazing summer, I just had to come back! I have spent many hot days in the sun and cool nights under the stars. I grew up on a small farm town outside of Kansas City, and I played outdoors a lot! I have been cooking ever since kindergarten. My first dish ever was macaroni and cheese with hot dogs. I attended Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, and I've worked in 4 star hotels as sous chef, executive chef, and banquet chef. Someone told me "If you do what you love, and love what you do, you will never work a day in your life!" I am so fortunate that I get to do what I love every day with the people I love the most! I'm looking forward to another amazing summer with the CMC family!
I grew up in Maine exploring its beautiful woods, lakes and mountains. I developed a connection with nature early on and find it necessary in my every day life to maintain balance and a sense of well-being. I make it a point to instill an appreciation for the outdoors in my son and I hope to encourage it with your kids as well.
I was born and raised in Ohio, and spent my childhood going to different sets of mountains to hike, and take part in many different water sports. Currently I enjoy hiking, skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and surfing. I love going on adventures outdoors and seeing sights in nature that few get the opportunity to see. I currently attend Ohio Northern University where I study nursing, with a minor in biology and public health. I am so excited to be able to spend the summer in Colorado, as well as all of the adventures it will bring, as well as the opportunity to expand my skills in nature and nursing!
I live in Whiting Indiana right next to lake Michigan. I am only a half an hour away from the Indiana Dunes State Park where I first took up an interest in the outdoors. I go to the Dunes to hike and explore the many trails it has to offer. Now I love to canoe, kayak, hike, fish, and bike any chance I get. Other activities I enjoy are running and playing basketball. I am beyond excited to take part in the adventures this summer!
I've spent my whole life living in Atlanta, but I escape into the great outdoors every chance I get! You can typically find me rock climbing on Southern sandstone in Georgia's neighbor states (or further when I get the chance). On top of this I've been mountain biking and kayaking all over the South, backpacking in North Carolina, Colorado and Wyoming and rafting in the Grand Canyon! Camp introduced me to my love of the great outdoors when I was 11 years old and it hasn't diminished since. My favorite thing about camp is how it introduces kids to the wonders of nature in the digital age we live in where often so much of their attention is consumed by technology.
I grew up in a coastal town in Eastern Maine on the border of Canada. I earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine and I am currently enrolled in an Adventure Recreation and Tourism program back here in my hometown. I have been involved in traditional sports all my life, and I just recently have transferred my athleticism toward outdoor recreation and I am now totally enamored with the challenges of the outdoors. I am excited for the opportunity to help all the campers experience the many opportunities Mother Nature has provided to us, while we all perform our duties to preserve these spectacular places for others to enjoy. I am excited to assist the youth in learning valuable technical and life skills this summer!
I grew up in Ada, Michigan where I spent most of my days on a farm with my horse and a passion for the outdoors since I can remember. I graduate from Michigan State University in the Spring with a degree in elementary education and child development. After studying in Alaska for a Summer, my drive for adventure grew exponentially and since have made it a goal to return to the mountains. A few of my favorite things are hiking, horseback riding, and being with my dog, Boo, however I find my niche wherever I can work with and teach children through nature and adventure!
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago but living near a city did not stop me from having adventures. My family went camping and paddling every summer. In high school I volunteered with the Student Conservation Association and spent a month living in the backcountry of Glacier National Park. This experience only further fueled my passion for the outdoors. I attended the University of Montana where I spent all my free time paddling, climbing, skiing and backpacking. Summer camp has always held a special place in my heart because there is no better place to explore the outdoors than with like-minded people who understand the importance of personal growth! I can not wait for the adventure to begin this summer!
I live in Portland, OR where I attend school at Lewis & Clark college. But, I fell in love with the outdoors in the Deserts of Southern California. I've been scrambling over sand and stone with friends and family since I was young and throughout many adventures the line between the two had been blurred. I'm ready for more outdoor excitement and I hope you are too!
I was raised in a small town in Wisconsin where I grew up hiking, kayaking, and camping with family and friends. I have always had a passion for the outdoors and the wonderful feeling that comes along with it. I am currently a student in Santa Barbara and study Psychology. I love new adventures and meeting new people in the process! When I'm not spending my time outside I enjoy spending time with my dogs and cat. I can't wait for the all the new experiences camp will bring my co-workers and I!
I grew up attending camps throughout my home state of Illinois, spending my summers outdoors, playing sports, riding horses, swimming, kayaking and much more. This was the spark that ignited my deep love of the outdoors. I am currently studying Psychology at the University of Dayton in Ohio, where I am able to use my time off to travel. Whether it is driving to Tennessee to hike in the Smoky Mountains or snorkeling and kayaking in the Gulf of Thailand during a break from volunteering, I am always up for the next adventure. When I am not studying or spending time outdoors, I love reading, writing, and dancing. I am looking forward to a fantastic summer of inspiring youth to explore and spreading my passion for the outdoors!
Since I was a kid growing up in Minnesota, a huge part of my life has been spent outside. Whether it be rock climbing, backpacking, skiing or slacklining, I chase every opportunity to be outdoors. Sharing my love for the wilderness and adventure has always been a priority in my life, and I can't wait to be able to do that this summer at Avid!
I grew up in San Diego-- fifteen minutes from the beach and only a short drive from the mountains and the desert. As a kid, I liked the outdoors, and I frequently went to the beach to poke the various creatures in the tide pools (sea anemones were my favorite!) and tagged along on my brother's Cub Scout camping trips, but I completely fell in love with the outdoors when I went backpacking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite. I now live in Baltimore because I attend Johns Hopkins University, but I still get outside and out of the city often since I lead trips (hiking, caving, canoeing, etc.) for other undergraduates through the Johns Hopkins Outdoors Club. You can also find me running a Girl Scout junior troop for inner-city students, tutoring adults trying to earn their GEDs, or dancing in one of Hopkins' dance groups. I am so excited to adventure with everyone this summer and make many amazing memories!
I grew up in the mountains and valleys of the Appalachian in south-central Pennsylvania, where I fell in love with the great outdoors and adventure. I began my camp career as a counselor in the summer of 2013 and have found each summer since filled with amazing opportunities and memories teaching the skills and helping others discover their own inspiration to go out and explore. I am a recent college grad from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, with a degree in Physical Activity and Fitness Management, and minors in Adventure Fitness and Aquatics. I can't wait for an amazing summer helping others learn to climb, hike, camp, and much more!
My love for the outdoors all started back at my lake house in Maine. It was there that I started paddling out on the lake by myself and going on amazing hikes with my family. I am from Virginia and am currently about to graduate from Radford University with a double concentration of outdoor recreation and leadership as well as tourism and special events. I have worked at a day camp for 3 years and absolutely loved every second of it. I am very excited to see what this summer has in store!
Growing up in the mountains of Colorado and the southern coast of France, my childhood was filled with hiking, skiing, sea kayaking, windsurfing, cliff diving, and more. I continue to lead an active and adventurous lifestyle and want to encourage others to find joy in immersing themselves in the outdoors. I strive to help people connect with others, their environment and themselves, creating aware, empowering and fun experiences. Having lived in six countries and traveled to many more, I seek adventures and challenges wherever I go. Currently working for Parks and Wildlife in Tasmania, Australia, I am looking forward to coming home to the Colorado mountains to spend an amazing summer with Avid 4 Adventure!
I grew up in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania participating in a variety of outdoor activities that I grew to love. Everything from kayaking, to mountain biking, to snowboarding, I was very lucky to grow up playing outside and to try new activities when the opportunity arose. It wasn't until I started college that I realized I enjoyed sharing my love for the outdoors with others in positions where I could lead and teach. I am currently finishing up my degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Management from the Pennsylvania State University and I am ready to push myself as a young professional in the outdoor recreation field. I am excited for all of the experiences I will share with others this summer!
Hi! I'm Alex! I'm a freshmen at Lewis and Clark College who grew up in Texas and have been doing backpacking and kayaking for most of my life. In high school I worked as a camp counselor and so I decided to combine my love for working with kids with my love for the outdoors. I am so excited for this summer!
I began as a high ropes instructor a year and a half ago falling in love with my new passion for challenge courses. Having the opportunity to combine this new love as well as my long existing love for nature since I was a child sounded sublime. I enjoy hiking, camping, and kayaking all around my home state of Michigan, and look forward to continue exploring the state of Colorado. I enjoy taking up new opportunities in the outdoors as often as possible and having excitement for the unknown it can offer. My favorite experiences are the ones that can not be planned or mapped out in the outdoors.
Kerry grew up traipsing through the woods of central Maryland, always covered in some type of mud. This passion for the outdoors inspired Kerry to pursue a degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management with a focus in Adventure Based Programming at Penn State University. While still finishing up her college experience, Kerry spends as much time as she can practicing yoga, rock climbing, hiking, hammocking, and taking in the beauty of central Pennsylvania. This past summer she worked as an adventure program instructor where she led middle schoolers in canoeing, caving, rock climbing, and mountain biking. She has also been an expedition trip leader for the past two summers for Penn State's AURORA Wilderness Orientation Programs, a backpacking experience geared toward incoming freshman. Kerry is passionate about connecting kids to the outdoors through adventure, inspiring them through her love of exploration and having fun!
I went to camp when I was ten years old and immediately fell in love with the outdoors. Since then, I've gotten the opportunity to hike, bike, and kayak throughout the United States. I learned to love nature because of the strong community it builds among people of all ages! I am currently a student at Oberlin College in Ohio where I take classes, spend time with friends, and build sets for theater productions. I'm super excited for this summer!
My love for the outdoors began in Philmont, New Mexico, where I went on my first backpacking trip. Ever since then I've been in the backcountry as often as possible from skiing the steepest mountains in Vermont, climbing in the Adirondacks, and backpacking all over the East coast. I attend the University of Vermont pursuing an Environmental Studies degree in conservation and stewardship, hoping to protect the nature we all love. I can't wait to explore Colorado with new friends and see what this summer has in store!
I grew up in a small lake community in upstate New York, and this inspired my love for nature. Since I was a kid, I've always spent time hiking in the woods and spending time in the water around my home. I have also attended and worked in some outdoor camps, which has gotten me really excited for this summer because I love to meet new people and go on adventures! I currently attend SUNY Binghamton University as a sophomore, studying Education. I love to spend time outdoors, read, and travel. I can't wait to meet everyone and am looking forward to this summer in Colorado!
Hi there! I'm Tom and I'm lucky enough to call the Black Hills of South Dakota home. I get a kick out of rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, and ice fishing. I graduated this year from Black Hills State University with a bachelors in Outdoor Education. I have a passion for experiential learning and l'm stoked to get an opportunity to pass that on to campers at Avid. I'm super excited to spend my summer with Avid and look forward to working with a great team.
I was born in Denver, Colorado, but move all over the southwest and have found myself in Arizona for the past few years. My passion for the outdoors started when I was a kid, my grandpa regularly took me hiking, fishing, and taught me about the natural world. Leading me to want to pursue an education in Environmental Studies at the University of Arizona. At college I have developed a love for climbing, whitewater, and everything else outside. Last summer I decided to dedicate myself to my passion and acquired my Wilderness First Responder, took a course with the National Outdoor Leadership School, and managed to shenanigan some wild adventures out in the Eastern United States. When I'm not outside, I love goofing around, sharing stories, and board games!
I grew up in New Jersey where I spent my summers attending various day and sleep away camps. Here, I fell in love with the tight-knit community and endless fun that can be found at camp. I am currently a senior at the University of Vermont, where I study Elementary Education with a concentration in science. I have spent my time in Vermont hiking, skiing, kayaking, exploring, and getting outdoors as much as possible. I can't wait for a summer of adventure and fun in the great outdoors!
My love for the outdoors started with a ten day trip starting in Portland, OR and driving up the seacoast to Seattle, WA. I stopped at places such as Crater Lake, Mt. Ranier, and Mt. St. Helens, these three places really showed me how gorgeous the outdoors is. I have been working as a day camp counselor in Massachusetts and Vermont for the past three summers but have been looking to combine my passion for working with kids with the outdoors. Avid4 Adventure offers me a chance to do this and I am looking forward to an amazing summer in the beautiful outdoors of Colorado and making lots of new friends! I can't wait to meet you all!
I grew up in beautiful Bend, Oregon where the outdoors were the constant backdrop to my adventures. My father put me in a harness at a young age before I even knew how to be afraid of heights. I grew up climbing at Smith Rock and I consider that a blessing every day. When the snow is covering the rocks, I'll trade in my climbing shoes for my backcountry ski setup and play in the powder for a couple months. I love climbing and skiing not only because they push my mental and physical limits, but because they are activities that get to be shared with friends and new people. I love to be spontaneous and will stop what I'm doing at the drop of a hat to go climbing or play outside with anyone. I have found that the best medicine to any ailment is fresh air and laughter. I can't wait to share this medicine with the new people that I meet throughout my next adventures!
Hi there! My name is Miranda and I'm from central Florida, but I'm very excited to be a camp counselor in the beautiful state of Colorado! I graduated from Florida State University with degrees in creative writing and media/communication studies and I am extremely passionate about education, environmental sustainability, and women & youth empowerment. I spent the past two summers volunteering and teaching English at a primary school in rural Cambodia. In my free time I enjoy trying new food, visiting new places, and singing and dancing with my friends!
I will be an Educator In Training at Mt. Evans this summer. I'm a Colorado native and have grown up in outdoor education programs, attending an outward bound elementary school. I enjoy backpacking, running, rock climbing and more! I love all 4 seasons and I love the outdoors. I am excited for the opportunity to show kids how fun the outdoors can be and help them get over their fears. I'm looking forward to meeting all kids. Let's make this a great summer!
I grew up in a small flat town, so when I saw the mountains for the first time, I absolutely fell in love. I knew that is where I belong. My first experience with Avid was as a camper. It was an experience I will never forget. I decided that being a camper at Avid just wasn't enough for me, so I decided to apply for a position at the camp. I wanted to share MY awesome experience with others. I love the camp and all the positivitey and fun Avid brings. I cannot wait to share all the long lasting friendships and memories the camp brings.
I am graduating from Broken Arrow High School this year. The first half of my high school career was spent being a cheerleader, and the second half was spent being part of an awesome Leadership program. Can't wait to start the next chapter of my life!
From a very young age, I became fascinated with the outdoors and loved to explore in nature. My family moved to Colorado when I was five, where I was already an avid skier since the age of two. Continuing to take advantage of all Boulder has to offer, I love spending time in the mountains hiking, camping, backpacking, snowboarding, and doing yoga. My love and interest in the outdoor world expands internationally as well. At the age of nine, my parents took me and my sisters abroad for four months to Africa and Asia where my passion for international travel truly blossomed. While attending the Watershed School, an expeditionary school, I was able to explore more of the world as well. I studied in South America with the Traveling School during my junior year and spent time backpacking and exploring the Andes and the Amazon. After graduation, I embarked on the Colorado Trail and completed it just before heading to India for three months to travel with Carpe Diem Education. I just completed my first year at Colorado College, and am thrilled to be staying in-state to continue seeking outdoor adventures. I love being part of the vibrant community of Avid 4 and I’m so excited to continue to share my passion for the outdoors with kids at CMC!
I'm Olivia! I'm an enthusiastic hiker/nature lover. I have fallen in love with the fresh air and the scenery you can't get anywhere else but good, old Colorado! If I'm not hiking, you can find me studying Chemistry, eating, or doing yoga! I'm currently at Denver South High School as a junior. I love making new friends so I hope you can join me on my awesome adventure with Avid!
