Heather's love for the outdoors came from attending camp every summer in Michigan. As she transitioned to being a camp staff member, she fell in love with the transformation she saw in her campers, fellow staff, and herself. It was because of this experience that she decided to get a degree in Outdoor Recreation, Leadership, and Management from Northern Michigan University. After spending a summer as a backpacking guide in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado, Heather headed back to SpringHill, the camp she grew up at, to direct their high school program. The lure of the mountains, however, has called her back to Colorado. When she is not at camp, Heather loves to backpack and rock climb with her best adventure buddy, her Australian Shepherd, Chaco.
I grew up in Durham, New Hampshire and still live there studying Outdoor Education and Recreation Management and Policy at The University of New Hampshire. I am a passionate backcountry skier, climber and in the past couple of years have begun to see what the sport of mountaineering has to offer to me. This passed summer I road tripped around the country adventuring and one of those adventures lead me to the summit of The Grand Teton in Wyoming. I hope to help provide amazing adventures to kids to allow them to find their inner adventurer and develop a love for the outdoors. This summer is going to be amazing!
Tarah is a barefoot rambler born and raised in Colorado and blessed with a healthy dose of wanderlust that has carried her all around the world. After spending her younger days in Denver, she graduated from Salve Regina University in Rhode Island followed by a string of service positions with the Peace Corps, The Island Institute of Maine, and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. Tarah spends her free time playing with her camera, exploring new corners of the globe, writing, reading, hiking or working on the travel company she started with her sister. Whether running youth programs in Morocco, running arts programs in Maine, working a non-profit farm in Hawaii or wandering around Colorado when she is home, Tarah has always been driven to the wild and try to pass on the sense of serenity, humility and wonder she gets from being outside.
I grew up going to camps all through the summer. I loved getting to try new things and challenging myself to accomplish greater goals than I ever thought I could. When I finally became old enough to try all the high ropes and alpine tower activities I immediately fell in love. I soon started to go on more hikes, explored as much as possible, and learned to love adventure. It has become a huge part of who I am today!
I've lived in East Texas all of my life, where I grew up playing outdoors and riding horses. I found a love for kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, and sledding when I traveled to Austin, TX, and Durango, CO. When I'm not taking care of my patients, I'm vacationing and finding myself in the outdoors!
I was born into a family that taught me the importance of an outdoor lifestyle. When i was an infant, my parents would strap me on their backs and take my hiking and back country skiing. Skiing is very important to me and i have been able to ski almost before i was able to walk. In the summer, nothing makes me happier then a long, beautiful mountain bike ride or hike with good friends and family. When the adventures are over, I love to sit around a campfire, telling stories and playing music. I hope to see you soon!
Growing up, I regularly disappeared into the woods to take hikes and climb trees. When I found myself at the end of my first backpacking trip through the Adirondacks at age twelve, I knew I had to continue immersing myself in nature and adventure. Currently, I attend Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, where I study Adventure Education. I love hiking, caving, and exploring the expanses of the White Mountains, but the meaningful relationships with the people and places that are forged through those experiences are what keep me coming back. I'm excited to get out and see what adventures this summer has in store!
Having grown up in a small town near the coast in North Florida, Billy developed a passion for the outdoors. He spent most of his time in or around the water kayaking, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), snorkeling, and surfing. Billy was an Aircraft Firefighter in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California from 2010 until he was honorably discharged in 2014. He then relocated to Denver, Colorado to pursue a degree in Recreation Management from MSU Denver. When Billy isn't enjoying Colorado hikes with his two golden retrievers, snowboarding, or camping he's hoping to inspire and cultivate the next generation of adventure seekers
I'm so blessed to have parents who raised me outside. My love for the outdoors started young, and has continued to grow ever since. My absolute favorite activity outside is waking up before the dawn to hike to the summit of a mountain for sunrise- majestic. Rock climbing, paddle boarding, and hiking aren't just rewarding experiences, but they have given me a platform to trust in myself and increase my self confidence. My passion is to translate that same thought through adventure activities. I delight in mentoring kids in an outdoor setting and equipping them with knowledge and self worth!
I grew up going to beaches and resorts, but during the summer after my freshman year of high school I spent two weeks in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado camping for the first time. I discovered myself in an entirely new way and was hooked on everything the outdoors had to offer. Since then, I've been to Yellowstone, Alaska, and am now wandering in the mountains surrounding the University of Vermont as a leader for the Outing Club. I love climbing, hiking, and cycling around the hills of Vermont and can't wait to spend my summer in the place where I was introduced to the backcountry. I am so excited to spend my summer making connections while adventuring in beautiful places, and I hope you are too!
I grew up outside of Boston and spent the latter half of my teenage years in the White Mountains, (where I attended high school), honing my love of outdoor adventure. I am a passionate mountain biker, cyclist, and occasional skier. I also am fond of laying in hammocks with a good book or two on a sunny day. I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, majoring in History and minoring in Education Studies. I love playing in the beautiful mountains of the Pacific Northwest, and when I'm not adventuring somewhere, I can be found fixing bikes at our campus bike shop or pontificating about the state of the world. I'm incredibly stoked to ride bikes with you this summer!
Chelsea graduated from West Virginia University with a dual degree in International Studies and Geography in 2013. She has always loved nature since she was a child, but really discovered her passion for the outdoors while living in Ghana, where nature offered a sanctuary from the challenges of assimilating into a new culture and building a life in a new country. Chelsea loves rock climbing, hiking, biking, yoga, adventuring near and far, and discovering new music. Chelsea is excited to help kids discover their passions for the wilderness and unlock their potential as leaders at camp.
The mountains of Western North Carolina taught me that rain is always in the forecast, (regardless of what the news says), and that ultimately you have to work with nature as a team to not only make it out, but to make it memorable. Those same mountains taught me how to ski, how to mountain bike, how to rock climb, and how to explore. As time moved on I wanted to share these interests and growing experiences with others, so I decided to get into the guiding world to help them see the area! My passion is the outdoors so I like to find people and organizations that I can work with to better and create more experiences for everyone!
I fell in love with the outdoors at a very young age while constantly exploring the backyard, and was never afraid to get my hands dirty. Since 2010, I've been working as a camp counselor and specialist teaching kids to mountain bike, kayak, paddle board, and appreciate the outdoors. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, biking and camping. After graduating with a degree in recreation, parks and tourism from San Francisco State University in 2014, I have continued to work in the camp industry in providing campers with a positive camp experience.
Hello all!! I'm Leah and I'm coming back to CMC for round two after I took last summer off! Here's a picture of Josh and I handling maps. I'm excited to see some of you guys again and meet the rest of you! I practiced the marshmallow song (so good) the other day so I think I'm ready! Woo see you all soon!
I am fortunate enough to have been raised in Southern California, spending my summers at camp and winters skiing or snowboarding. Thus, I developed a deep appreciation for all that a residential camp and the outdoors has to offer at a young age. My love for the outdoors only continued to develop throughout middle and high school, leading me to pursue a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. When I'm not running, hiking, or just lolling around underneath a great live oak tree, I enjoy sketching and discovering quirky coffee shops. I genuinely love working with kids and can't wait to be working in the gorgeous state of Colorado!
I grew up in Nashville Tennessee and was introduced to the outdoors at an early age. I began exploring and hiking in the mountains of North Carolina at Camp Timberlake when I was 10 and been in love ever since. I've been all around the country hiking, backpacking and climbing. When I'm not hiking or exploring, I am probably playing frisbee gold or hanging out with friends. I am a sophomore at Colorado State University studying Natural Resource and I am pumped about working as a camp counselor this summer!
Growing up in Central Florida, I spent much of my free time swimming, kayaking, and surfing. While I've always felt comfortable around the water, I discovered a love for the woods during family hiking trips to North Carolina. I am now a freshman studying biology and running cross country at Centre College in Kentucky. When not jumping in the ocean or running down a new trail, I can be found reading in a comfy chair under a tree. I live for new adventures and am so excited to share the joy of getting outside and exploring!
Ryan was born in Boulder. Ryan’s lifelong love for the outdoors led him to pursue an education in Outdoor Leadership at Colorado Mountain College where he was a student of wilderness ethics & sustainability. Ryan’s adventures have provided a wealth of experiences including climbing to the top of Longs Peak in Joe Boxer Pajama Pants and most recently as the CIT Director for Poulter Camps. Ryan is a Wilderness First Responder, finds peace when he is boot-deep in the back country, and he loves him some Brussel Sprouts! This summer Ryan is looking forward to fostering appreciation and stewardship for nature in the hearts of all campers and youth.
I am originally from Lakewood Colorado but currently reside in Gunnison, Colorado where I am studying Environment and Sustainability at Western State Colorado University. Although I grew up in the city, I have spent my entire life enjoying the outdoors camping, skiing, kayaking, climbing, etc. I continue to be passionate about the outdoors and chose a perfect place to do it with the outstanding natural playground that is the Gunnison Valley. I recently graduated form a year-long Outdoor Leadership course where I perfected my hard (technical) skills but more importantly expanded my soft (interpersonal) skills which are vital to becoming a great leader. Mostly I love being outside with fun people doing fun activities and can absolutely not wait to begin my first adventure with the Avid4 team!
Born and raised in Saugus, California, Kaylin’s fondest memories growing up were long road trips in failing Hondasand cheap camping excursions acrossthe country, making a point to visit nearlyevery national park on the map, thanks to her mother, an ex‐forest ranger and tree guru. From a young age, Kaylin learned the importance of exploring and appreciating the outdoors, and loving every minute of it. As a competitive cross-‐country runner, she was recruited to Columbia University, where she’s currently studying Creative Writing, in the hopes of someday making a living. With her love of adventure, rock climbing, and biking, spending the summer months sharing her passions with the kids at Avid4 seemed like a no-‐brainer. She’s psyched to be a staff member and is looking forward an awesome
Born and raised in Colorado, I grew up enjoying the wilderness here and all over the west as I traveled with my family on road trips to national parks. When I was seven or eight, I started going to camp with Avid4 Adventure, and I've been going ever since. When I'm not reveling in the outdoors, I enjoy creative writing and making art. I'm getting ready to go into my senior year at George Washington High School in Denver.
My first experiences at Avid4 Adventure were what made me fall in love with the outdoors, and the beautiful state of Colorado, which has been my home for all my life. I love working with children of all ages and I am really looking forward to a fun and exciting summer at Avid4. I enjoy pushing myself out of comfort zone. I also love water sports, softball, drawing, writing, and cooking! I can't wait to spend my summer doing what I love-- learning, teaching kids, and being outdoors!
I have lived in Utah for most of my life, and during that time I've developed a love for outdoor activities, especially rock climbing, hiking and water activities! I am a part time student at Utah State University, and nothing consumes my spare time like the great outdoors! Along with adventuring, my passion is playing musical instruments, especially the drums! My favorite part of camp is helping to shape the amazing experiences campers will have here, and nothing makes me more proud than to see them grow over the sessions! I have been a part of the Avid family since 2014, and I can't wait to see new and familiar faces this summer!
I grew up going on "Out West" trips every summer in elementary school travelling to National Parks such as Zion, Bryce, Sequoia, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Grand Canyon, just to name a few. This sparked my love of the outdoors at a very early age. Since then, I have been trying the best I can to spend as much time in the wilderness, learning and teaching. I have run three half-marathons and plan to run many more in my lifetime, always trying to stay active. I am extremely passionate about climate change and the environment around us, especially teaching and portraying this passion to others. I love challenges, for they show you what you can actually do instead of living life doing what you think you can do! I cannot wait to share my passions and experiences with everyone this summer!
