| From the Director Company Mission Management Staff Safety Partners |
I started Avid4 Adventure to do two things. First, to engage kids in active outdoor pursuits in a safety-oriented, environmentally responsible manner. To this end, Avid4 Adventure provides age-appropriate outdoor activities that encourage learning, develop self-esteem and build friendships. Given that outdoor activities can involve risks, we focus on promoting safety through participant awareness and quality staff. All of our staff are proficient and tested in their area of instruction, certified in first aid and CPR, trained in defensive driving, background checked, as well as being experienced with kids and great role models.
Second, to make it easy on parents so you can feel like more than just a chauffeur. Early drop-off to camp, easy to order nutritious lunches, & extended care options are available, providing welcome logistic relief for busy parents. Also, Avid4 Adventure day camp programs meet centrally and all of our activities are local, so travel time is minimized for you and your kids.
Over my last 20+ years in the outdoor industry, I've run a number of programs, from the CU Outdoor Program to the Outdoor Recreation Coalition of America, but I've never been as excited about anything as much as Avid4 Adventure. I look forward to personally answering any questions that you have!

"KIDS, COME INSIDE, YOUR DINNER'S GETTING COLD!!" Twenty years ago, these words echoed across America millions of times each evening. Today, this phrase is much more seldom heard. Parents are concerned as they witness the increasingly sedentary lifestyle that kids are adopting. Mounting time in front of video games and TV, reduced PE in school and a drop in team sports participation are leading to a generation of kids that are less physically active and more overweight. Avid4 Adventure was founded to address this growing concern by delivering a spectrum of outdoor recreation non-competitive activities for kids and families that are designed to offer logistic relief for today's busy parents.
The mission of Avid4 Adventure is to inspire life-long active outdoor lifestyles and environmental stewardship through experiences that provide personal development and memorable family adventures, while addressing the logistic needs of parents.
At the helm of Avid4 Adventure is David Secunda, 20+ year veteran of the outdoor industry. He obtained his degree in Outdoor Education while working with Outward Bound and Outdoor Leadership Training Seminars, then went on to become the Director of Outdoor Education for the University of Colorado, running one of the five largest programs in the country (over 200 courses each year with a staff of 50). Following this, he founded the Outdoor Network, which became the definitive professional journal in the industry, before moving on to become the Executive Director of the Outdoor Industry Association, the industry trade association for the United States. He then founded PlanetOutdoors, a leading online retailer of outdoor products, which was subsequently acquired by MVP, Inc.
Additionally, Secunda has played a leadership role with numerous non-profits in the outdoor sector. Specific roles have included:
- Leave No Trace, Chairman & Founding Board Member
- Association for Outdoor Recreation and Education, Founding Board Member
- Student Conservation Association, Board Member
- American Hiking Society, Board Member
- American Mountain Guide Association, Accreditation Team Member
- National Outdoor Safety Managers Conference, Founding Committee

- We have developed a risk management plan to monitor and address risks and activities in our programs.
- We hire staff that is proficient and tested in their area of instruction, certified in first aid and CPR, trained in defensive driving, and thoroughly background checked.
- We methodically inspect all of our equipment.
- We precede activities with a talk about potential risks and how to avoid or minimize them.
- We have staff to participant ratios that provide for individualized attention and good group management.
- Participants are oriented to the concept that safety is an important priority, and each participant becomes a member of the "safety team". This increases hazard awareness as well as personal responsibility.
- Avid4 Adventure has written activity protocols to promote consistency and address inherent risks.
- Avid4 Adventure programs are age and ability appropriate. We believe that it's much more important to have a great time than it is to "reach the top".
Please review our Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement in the Forms section for more information on the activities and risks, and participant and parent responsibilities. Please contact us if you have any further questions, or would like to review our risk management plan.
Avid4 Adventure is pleased to have established partnerships with the leading manufacturers that provide equipment for our programs. In addition, we support outdoor focused non-profits doing important work to conserve recreation areas and their access. Please visit our Partners page for more information on all of these relationships.
