Kayaking Camp Boulder - 2nd to 7th Grade - Day Camps

Our Kayaking summer camps take campers out on both flatwater and whitewater to experience the joy of paddling independently and also as a team. Under the guidance of our highly qualified instructors, campers learn basic strokes, rescue techniques, river reading, and water safety as they navigate some of the most beautiful lakes and waterways.

Campers learn skills tailored to their level, progressing as they build proficiency and comfort. We group them by grade range— 2nd – 4th graders or 5th – 7th graders — and give them plenty of individualized attention as they develop confidence and deepen their technical skills, stroke by stroke.

Please note: Kayaking Day Camp campers should have some previous experience paddling in standing or moving water. In order to register for this program, campers should feel fully comfortable on open water and be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time. If a camper does not meet this minimum skill requirement, we reserve the right to move a camper to a different program (if space is available) or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit.

THE WEEK’S ADVENTURES

Flatwater

White Water

Campers spend their first two or three days learning flatwater skills, getting comfortable with fitting their equipment, using kayaking hand signals, making wet exits and maneuvering our kid-friendly Jackson Whitewater Kayaks before they ever dip their paddles in moving water.

During the second half of the week, campers will leave flat-water behind to build knowledge and skills in moving water, practicing their technique in some of the Front Range’s premier rivers and creeks. Please note that our kayaking locations will depend on water levels and group ability.

Camp Value

Why Sign Up For Multiple Sessions?

Based on our experience (and a bunch of brain science), we know that multiple sessions of Avid camp will benefit your child – it will result in greater skill development, increased self-confidence, higher levels of risk assessment/environmental awareness, and an improved ability to connect socially with others and make new friends.

WE TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY

While no outdoor adventure is totally risk-free, we work hard to keep your kids safe. Every activity starts with a discussion about the risks involved -- what they are, how to prevent them, how to respond if something goes wrong -- so kids learn how to approach challenges with intelligence and skill.
