Day Camp: Boulder Kayaking Day Camp

Get your kids paddling at a young age with the enjoyment and challenges that only whitewater kayaking can provide. Located in the beautiful and scenic lakes and rivers of  Colorado’s Front Range, your child will  join our team of qualified instructors for a week of kayaking adventures while learning river safety, rescue techniques and whitewater kayaking skills. Throughout the week, we will be paddling in some of  the Front Range’s premier moving water sections (river level dependent) in a progression appropriate to the group’s skill and ability level.

Times, Meeting Location, & Dates:

Times: Drop-off at 8:45am and pick-up at 2:30pm. Optional Extended Care is available from 8:00am – 5:30pm.

Meeting Location: Meets in Boulder at High Peaks/BCSIS Elementary School

2012 Dates:

  • “Kayaking Skills Camp” for Ages 7-9: June 18-22, July 2-6
  • “Kayaking Adventure Team” for Ages 10-12: June 11-15, June 25-29, July 16-July 20

Highlights for Boulder Kayaking Day Camp:

  • Learn river reading and safety techniques.
  • Review kayak skills in our kid-friendly recreational flat water boats.
  • Gain new skills, starting on flat water at Boulder Reservoir, then progressing to moving water, in our kid-specific Jackson Whitewater Kayaks.
  • Play in the premier “water parks” of the Front Range: Clear Creek in Golden, Boulder Creek and the St. Vrain in Lyons and Denver— where we go is dependent on water levels and group ability.

Overview for Boulder Kayaking Day Camp:

This five day Boulder Kayaking Summer Camp is an amazing opportunity for kids — such access and diversity is available in only a few places in the world. Learning the skills and awareness to kayak the unique waterways of the Rocky Mountains with an emphasis on safety and fun with friends is the foundation of our program. We provide all of the technical equipment and transportation as well as our own American Red Cross and American Canoe Association certified kayak instructors for a week of kayaking, fun and adventure.

Activity Detail for Boulder Kayaking Day Camp:

  • 1-3 days flat water basic skills introduction and practice
  • 1 day moving water study and skills development
  • 2-3 days refining technique through creek playing at different locations depending on water levels and group abilities

IMPORTANT Summer camp participants should have previous standing or moving water experience. Although PFDs are always worn, participants should be competent swimmers and feel comfortable if momentarily submerged below water.
