Family Trip Camping Adventures

Do you love to camp but hate the logistics of set-up and food purchase? Has it been too long since you have had time to recreate yourself while your kids enjoy their own activity? Have your outdoor adventures dwindled since you had kids? Then Avid4 Adventure’s Family Camping Trips are for you.

We make it simple by taking care of all of the logistics, so you can focus on enjoying the environment and each other. On all of our trips, parents have time to recreate together while Avid4 Adventure staff provides outdoor instruction for all the kids. Then we have family time in the late afternoons and evenings. Our mandatory Family Trip Registration Fee of $50 is paid only once per family, per year, when you sign up for your first family program. It provides you with Avid4 Adventure tee shirts for each family member, as well as free and unlimited access to pictures. Each leader carries a digital camera with them and takes photos in the field. These photos are then uploaded to a site that you can view, share, download, and print from. Additionally, you will receive a customized wooden frame for a group picture from the trip as a keepsake.

Each day, Avid4 Adventure’s most experienced guides will provide canyon hikes, rock climbing, and rafting for your youngsters for half the day and family time for the other half of each day. Family Trip Frequently Asked Questions

Do you supply group camping equipment?

Avid4 Adventure makes it so easy by providing all group camping equipment. When you arrive, your large Sierra Designs family tent will be set up and waiting for you. If you reserve sleeping bags and pads from us, then your Thermarest Camp Rest pad will be inflated and your Kelty sleeping bag will be fluffed and ready for slumber. While at camp, you can relax in camp chairs and enjoy conversations with other participants. We also provide all of the outdoor gear that your kids will need to enjoy each day of instruction. All you need to bring with you are your personal items (see What To Bring section).

What about meals and snacks?

Avid4 Adventure makes it so easy by providing all food, snacks and camping equipment (large family tents, kitchen supplies, etc.). Participants may be asked to help prepare or clean up a meal or two, making this a real community adventure. As an added treat, Professional Chef Staci Rieder designed all of the meals for our family trips.

What should we bring?
Avid4 will provide tents, all kitchen gear (including personal dishes), and all technical gear for kids instruction. Following is a suggested personal gear list:

Sleeping bag and pad (or reserve them through Avid4 Adventure for a nominal cleaning fee)
Pillows (optional but nice, especially for the kids for the drive out and back)
Cotton Sheet (1 per person)- This is a nice item to have on hot trips as you can go to sleep with just a sheet on top of you to stay cool.
Flashlight or Headlamp (with batteries)
Sunscreen
Bug spray
1 Liter water bottle (per person)
Daypack (important for kids activities)
Toiletries (lip balm, shaver, wash cloth, towel, floss, toothbrush, toothpaste, personal medications, feminine hygiene, vitamins…)
Camera (optional)
Thermal Mug (optional)
Sunglasses (optional)
Guidebooks (bike, climb, etc.)
Car Seat (If you child uses a car seat, please make sure to bring it with you. We will use it in the van while transporting kids to activities.)

How can I be reached while on a Family Trip?
Our family trips often take place in remote locations where communication to or from our group can be challenging, delayed or impossible. Cell phones work in some of our program locations, but can not be relied upon. Should you need to reach a family that is in the field, please refer to the CONTACT tab on our website and contact the Avid4 Adventure office or emergency contacts. Our emergency on-call Director can always be reached at 720-249-2412 X9.

Is there anything I should do to prepare my kids?
It’s great to prepare you kids for a Family Trip by actively involving them in the planning process. Talk to them about the destination in advance: touch on what they will see and do, and what the camp and weather will be like. Share that you can have a great time no matter what the weather, as long as you are properly prepared.

Make a copy of the packing list and ask them to get their own clothing and gear together for your final review. By involving you kids in the trip preparation, you are providing a foundation for their learning about the outdoor environment.

Can I participate in activities during the day with my kids?
On most trips, the staff at Avid4 Adventure plans kid’s activities for each day for several hours so that parents can get out for some recreation on their own. Parents are always welcome to join their kids for these activities unless we have permit or other limitations, but please note that not all activities may be appropriate for all parents based on physical abilities.

When do I pay for our Family Trip?
Full payment is due at the time of your registration.

What is the Refund, Transfer & Cancellation Policy?

Transfers- Up to 60 days before the start of any domestic family trip, we are happy to transfer your family into any other available family trip at no charge. From 30-59 days before your program begins, we can transfer your family into any other available family program for a $25 fee per family member. 29 days or fewer before your program begins, see Cancellation policy below.
Cancellation- If you must cancel, please let us know as soon as possible. If we are able to resell all of your family’s spots, then we will provide you with a refund, less a $25 per family member administrative fee. If we are able to resell some but not all of your family’s spots, then the non-resold spots are subject to our Transfer policy above or our Cancellation policy below.
If we can not resell your spots, then withdrawal 60 or more days before the start of a Family Trip will result in a credit usable for any other Avid4 Adventure program in the next year, minus a $25 fee per family member. From 30-59 days before your program begins, you will result in a credit for 50% of the total family trip cost usable for any other Avid4 Adventure program in the next year. If you need to cancel at the last minute, for any reason, we can not issue refunds or credit.
Last Minute Medical Cancellation- If you must cancel due to illness or injury, we can transfer you to any other available family trip in the same calendar year for a $100 fee per family member if you provide a signed Physicians note stating that the family member(s) could not participate in the family trip due to the illness or injury.

Do I need to fill out any forms?

All forms that are required for participation will be emailed to you to fill out before the trip. Original signed forms must be received in the Avid4 Adventure office at least five business days before a trip begins. Families may not participate in Avid4 Adventure programs without signed forms on file.
