The Colorado Mountain Camp Difference

Much more than just s’mores around the campfire or even building skills in the adventure sports we teach, CMC is about the lasting impact that comes when all kids—whatever their ability or confidence level—learn to face new challenges, push beyond their comfort zones and make sound, independent decisions.  We support that deeper learning through our expert staff and extensive experience in adventure education. Read more below about what makes us different.

Our Staff

Colorado Mountain Camp instructors are dedicated educators and outdoor enthusiasts.  Our lead instructor staff are ages 21 and above, most have at least a bachelor’s degree, and they all are required to have certifications including Basic CPR, Wilderness First Aid, Red Cross Small Craft Safety at a minimum. Most of our staff have more! As a result, our instructors are older and more mature than typical camp staff. They possess broad experience, impeccable credentials, solid judgment, and most importantly, a deep rooted passion for teaching kids to love the outdoors. Read some of their bios here.

Our confidence-building approach

“Our daughter was excited about CMC because of the location and the activities, but the two-week time period gave her doubts. She is SO happy she decided to go for it.

We noticed on pickup day that she was greeting everyone that walked by, where previously she would’ve been too shy. Much to our surprise, she took us mountain biking that day. This was the activity that she was the most worried about. She even fell off her bike at camp. However, she was determined to show us what she experienced and is excited to continue mountain biking with us.

We are so pleased with the changes we already see in our girl after only one day home. She is more confident, conscientious, curious and persistent.” – CMC parent

We make every kid feel at home

“I debated a long time if Olive was ready to go to overnight camp or not. Olive is deaf and uses Cochlear Implants to access sound and language. She was only 8, she was not going with a friend and she would have a huge responsibility in managing her Cochlear Implant equipment away from home.

Olive came home a truly a different child. Her confidence and maturity was unbelievable! She felt very independent and was beaming when I met her on pickup day. Her growth trickled into our family life as well. I did not foresee this level of growth and maturity after five short days.” – CMC parent

We empower our campers to push their limits

“Our camper was more than a little apprehensive at the thought of attending CMC. She is pretty afraid of heights and was very concerned about rock climbing.

When her father and I saw the photo of her on rock climbing day strapped into her harness and dangling in the air with the largest smile on her face, we were beyond excited for her. The pride she felt in her accomplishment showed so clearly. She overcame a fear she’s had as long as we can remember. Avid4 Adventure has changed her life and opened up a new door.” – CMC parent
