Highlights for Leadership Development for Teens
The program begins July 9th with a week of programs based at High Peaks/BCSIS. Teens will participate in an intensive 5-day staff training which will provide guidance on all aspects of the Avid4 Adventure summer camp program. Certifications and training will prepare participants to be contributing members of our Camp Eden staff.
Overview for Leadership Development for Teens
After this experience, LITs will be ready for the challenges and thrills of working with children in the outdoors. They will be invited to spend two weeks at our sleepaway resident Camp Eden. During these weeks LITs will assist staff in all program elements, including outdoor activities, group initiatives and problem solving activities, managing challenging behaviors, playing silly camp games, and providing a classic Avid4 Adventure experience to all kids in the program. These weeks will provide a wonderful learning opportunity for your teen to mature, develop leadership skills, teach basic outdoor skills, and further develop their passions and interests in working with elementary-aged children.
During the summer, LIT’s will receive ongoing evaluation and feedback. They create a personal development plan that allows them to develop skills and techniques over the summer. At the conclusion of the summer, LIT’s receive a formal written evaluation.
This is an ideal summer learning experience that provides a strong foundation for further work with youth in the outdoors or other related fields. Although this program does not lead to direct employment with Avid4 Adventure (our staff are 21 and above), it will serve as a wonderful stepping stone to other great youth opportunities and provides community service hours.
Please note that if a participant is asked to leave the program as a result of repeated inappropriate behavior or lack of judgment, refunds will not be given.
This institution is operated under special use permit with the Medicine Bow, Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests. Trip itineraries may change as a result of logistics, land use restrictions, or group dynamics.
